My blog is two and to celebrate I’m…

And just like that I have been blogging for two years.

This is my 474th blog post in 730 days which means I’ve average way too much bullshit in the past two years.

It would have been nice to be able to reward you, my 6 readers, with a gift of some sort but I’m just not that organised or rich.

Instead I want you to give ME something, yep, I need your advice, wisdom, honesty and thoughts.

You see I have decided I’m going to dig really really dip and realise a *lifelong dream of mine and attempt to write and publish a…….b b b blog newsletter.

Yessiree I think it’s high time I started a weekly newsletter because I like to ramble and this will be the perfect platform. I also intend to giveaway stuff to those that sign up.

I’m thinking I might have a weekly piece of advice or quote from someone, maybe a famous person, a blogger or a random person on the street.

Either way I intend to stray from the norm in regards to newsletters and make it reasonably off the wall but not too silly that people won’t want to read it.

HALOM_SQUARE

Here’s what I’m thinking it will be like:

1. Not boring

2. Lots of photos, images and other graphics because I can’t stand reading newsletters that are all just TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT. See, boring right?

3. I or someone I know will share a useless piece of information that could change your life.

4. A link to the best posts I’ve written that week, if they’re all crap I won’t link any.

5. Maybe a funny meme or embarrassing photo of myself.

6. A moan about something political that is annoying me.

7. Some tips for those writers looking to get work published.

How does that sound? Would you sign up to get an email from me once a week? I promise it won’t be boring.

Go on take a leap of faith and sign up, what have you got to lose?

PLEASE…

Okay so I’ll let you in on a little secret, see the above sign-up form? Well my mate Amanda @ Cooker and a Lookerย just set this up for me, like THIS MORNING!

I know how lucky am I?

I offered her my first-born but then I realised she’s toilet trained so I then re-offered my third, I still haven’t heard back…

In my defence I’m actually really useless at this sort of stuff and she’s a legend!

Oh and I’m in the midst of toilet training hell, have permanently adopted two new RSPCA cats and now I have razor blade throat and a blocked nose.

So now this is when I ask another favour… PLEASE give me feedback on what you want to see in my newsletter, especially you non-blogger readers, yes all 3 of you.

What do you DISLIKE in newsletters?

What do you LOVE in newsletters?ย

Should I even bother, I mean I don’t have any serious recipes or craft ideas to share with you?

* Actually it’s only been a goal of mine for a year, I didn’t even know what a blog was until 2012 (hangs head in shame).

  1. Happy bloggerversary! Yay!

I don’t particularly like blog newsletters but I do like the sound of your no boring newsletter. I think making things fun is the way to get people opening it. You know I have everything set up to send newsletters but do you think I can ever find my mojo to write and send them? I really need a kick up the butt.

So where do I sign up for your newsletter?

  2. Happy anniversary mate. 474 posts? Amazeballs!

  3. Happy Blogaversary! I hope you will celebrate in style. Perhaps a glass of wine or a malteser for every blog post? You’ve earned it! I can barely keep up with reading blogs, let alone newsletters, but yours does sound very enticing. I don’t like too much text either (just because I’m too lazy and too short on time to read a lot,) but I’d love a link back to the posts (in the unlikely and hearbreaking event that I’d missed any!) And yes, you should totally bother, there’s more to life (and to newsletters,) than crafting and cooking!

  4. Happy two years! That’s a kick-ass strike rate too. All signed up and looking forward to the newsletter! xx

  5. All signed up and waiting for the first issue ๐Ÿ™‚ Amanda IS very very very amaze balls and so are you. I def like the tips to get published idea and a newsletter that its a bit out of the box.

  6. Congratulations! Happy birthday, HALOM. I’m so glad you’re here in the blogosphere.

Everything you’ve suggested sounds great. The only other suggestion I’d make is to write something -ANYTHING – in the space that says ‘put a preview of your newsletter here’ because I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve received blog emails that still have that text in them. And it’s at the top, so it’s what you see in the inbox before you even click on the email to read it! GAH!

  7. Mailchimp time! And yes, definitely do a newsletter. It’s easy once you’ve got a template set up, and fun.

  8. Yay! Happy birthday! Your newsletter will be great. I’m actually half way through setting mine up too. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. I’m in I’m in!! When you have EVER written anything boring?? Congrats on two years, big high fives my lovely friend. Oh and I’m watching from the sidelines as you potty train – my little one is next – eeeeeeek!!!

  10. Geez. What a good friend to have! What time did you guys get up this morning to sort all this out? The crack of dawn? Happy anniversary! Yours was one of the first blogs I ever started reading. I was a fan from the get go and still a fan today. I love everything you write. It’s funny, interesting and relatable. Just put more of that shit into your newsletter and you’ll be sweet xxx

  11. Happy big 2 Em!! I’m all signed up and ready to read.
I really like the idea of a link to all posts in one spot, then I’m sure not to miss one, because I’m slack like that ๐Ÿ™‚
Having an addition from someone else is a good idea, I’m sure your non-blogger readers would love to contribute, and then we all get to enjoy it.
My newsletter is still parked at the moment, while I work on another crazy idea!
Good on you for always putting it out there, gorgeous xx

  12. 6 – come on – don’t sell yourself short. You’re more amazing than that. I eagerly await my most amazing newsletter. No pressure ๐Ÿ˜‰

  13. Happy 2nd blogiversary!! Your blog and mine are only a month apart. Mine turned two in September ๐Ÿ™‚ I have signed up for your newsletter and eagerly await the first issue! I will be learning the MailChimp ropes soon myself over at my new blog. Maybe you can give me some pointers! Min xo

  14. Happy 2 years! Wow…474 posts! That’s amazing. You are a blogging genius…especially because your posts are not crap sub-standard ones even after blogging almost every day! Good on you!
Love the idea of your newsletter. Can’t wait to receive the first one…

  15. Congratulations on turning 2!
I will be eagerly awaiting the newsletter. I love reading your blog, in fact after an extended online absence recently yours was the ONLY blog I read all posts of – most just got deleted unread.
Your format sounds like something I’d totally enjoy reading.
Personally, I hate untited newsletters – or a boring title like “Newsletter from XXX”
What do I love – everything you’ve listed as the content of your newsletter.
    I’ll definately be a subscriber. ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. congratulations em! … that is a mammoth record, I recon!
I would sign up because I like you and like to support you …
I would like a quote of the day or some snippet maybe a pics etc yeah, good ideas! … but are they a bit superfluous when you blog nearly everyday??? … thinking!
if it generates more revenue it’s probably good for you?! … seeing as I have no idea?!/
I like a newsletter when I haven’t been into that blog for a while and a newsletter seems a bit more personal
eg hi merilyn … they lure me back into their site with amazing content … wow! I missed that?!?
but not to repeat info that I’ve just read in their blog!
got it hun??? I’m a bit fuzzy this morning! … have a good one em! … m:)X

  17. Happy Bloggy Birthday Em! What a feat to have written 474 posts – you really are amazing with the words.

A newsletter sounds awesome – I am signed up & ready. xx

  18. 474 posts of your fabulous wit and wisdom? You’re amazing, Em. I’ve got to admit I find most newsletters make me yawn but I’m signed up and ready to read yours because I know that coming from you that there’s no chance it will be dull! ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Happy blog birthday gorgeous – only bigger and better things to come xx

  20. Happy bloggiversary! Supported and signed up ๐Ÿ™‚ I’d love to have more laughs in my inbox… hop over to my blog today to see what crap I’ve been receiving and you’ll understand ๐Ÿ˜›

    Ai @ Sakura Haruka

  21. 474 posts is quite a lot of drivel, I mean a big achievement. Congrats on the anniversary and taking the plunge with the newsletter.

  22. Happy bloggiversary!!

  23. Happy Anniversary! Good luck with the newsletter, do you ever sleep?

  24. Think I signed up twice! You are too funny! You inspire me… only at this for two years? Happy Birthday. I’ll read anything you write x

  25. Wow! Happy 2nd Birthday and your blog rate is awesome, in over 3yrs I have only done 458 or something like that. As for the newsletter, I say go for it if you want to. Obviously there are a few people who enjoy reading you ‘bullshit’ and of cause we would love to read more. Great work!

  26. Happy anniversary! Bloggerversary?! Whatever, I’m signed up! I like newsletters that are a bit of a giggle and interesting and not a daily thing. Pictures are good. Looking forward to yours!

  27. Happy second blog anniversary Em! How exciting! I signed up to your newsletter! I’m looking forward to read it!

  28. Happy Bloggy Birthday! I’m all signed up. Can’t wait to read it each week!

  29. I subscribed woot I’m one of the 6 readers! I think you’re ideas sound good. Images are always better than loads of text.

  30. Happy, happy birthday. Yep, I’m signed up too, I just love your laughs, so keep them coming. X

  31. I love newsletters as long as they are pretty! And I am sure I will love yours! Signed up! Happy Blogiversary Em! Rock on!

  32. Happy blogoversary – and best of luck with your newsletter!

  33. Signed up and excited! And your blog doesn’t look a day over one and a half. Congrats on a big milestone – looking forward to seeing what you get up to next. xx

  34. Happy anniversary!! This is all very exciting! Just signed up to your newsletter – you always make me giggle so I’m going to love getting this each week. So thrilled that it’s your blogs birthday… I think we should have cupcakes and champagne to celebrate! xxx

  35. Congrats! The non-boring newsletter sounds great. I like that it will be different from most others out there. Will sign myself up now ๐Ÿ™‚

  36. You see I’m not a massive fan of the blog newsletter, but I am a massive fan of you so of course I have signed up and will await the first edition with baited breath. Having said that though, don’t let me down! You could also include one or two things you’ve seen around the web that you thought were good, kinda like my Linky Lovin’ Friday on a small scale, I always like to know what my fave bloggers have been reading and enjoying as chances are I’ll enjoy it too!

  37. Happy bloggy birthday!! That is a massive number of posts. Good on you. I like newsletters that include cake, FYI. And funny stuff. And are not too long. But not too short either. And not just links to posts. I like feeling spesh. xx

  38. Happy birthday! I have subscribed to and eagerly await your newsletter. Just be your usual witty and charming self and it will be great he he x

  39. Happy blogoversary! A once a week newsletter would be fab! Can you take me off your other email list as I have subscribed to your new one? Once a week definitely suits me better and I look forward to reading edition No1!

  40. You’re a rockstar! Congratulations. I can’t believe how much you’ve achieved.
Newsletter. It might be too late, but I’d recommend aweber over mailchimp because once you have to pay for your list aweber is quite a bit cheaper x

  41. Congrats Emily! Absolutely do the newsletter! I read most of my fave blogs by email anyway (including yours) so that would suit me ๐Ÿ™‚

  42. Yep Newsletters are fun!! I’m still trying to perfect the art of mine……. all signed up!!

  43. I have given up on my newsletter. Occasionally I consider using it again, but I just don’t.
I hope yours goes gangbusters Em. xx

  44. I just signed up!!!

    Happy anniversary!

  45. Signed up and excited chick to receive it chick. I love lots of imager in newsletters to tempt me over to a post I may have missed… not that I think I miss many of yours anyway so something a little extra for us die hard Em fans xx

  46. I try to have extra stuff that isn’t on my blog in my newsletter. I might have shared it on my FB page, or twitter but as you know, not everyone is on those mediums or getting any of our updates. I started off weekly but I got too lazy for that lol! I also have zero design ability and I managed to whip one up so I think you’ll be fine ๐Ÿ™‚

  47. Congrats & happy blog birthday! I think it’s a great way to get every post (& other bits & bobs) into my inbox as I find when I jump on my feeds I miss more then I realise… Gets me cranky. But this way I don’t miss anything! Yay.
Just promise that this extra thing won’t stretch you too thin… Such a busy lady. x

  48. Happy bloggy birthday!! There are a few newsletters I bother to read, but mostly I trash them. I do look forward to yours, however. I always think about doing one myself but know I don’t have enough to say that’s non-boring and it has always stopped me. Looking forward to hearing your pearls of wisdom!

  49. Signed up! Looking forward to spending some quality newsletter time with you ๐Ÿ™‚ x

  50. Just be you! A newsletter is a more personal way to connect…I got slack and have stopped doing my newsletter which I really need to get back into – soon!
    Happy Anniversary ๐Ÿ™‚
    And yes I signed up!!!

  51. I love love your blog Em! All signed up and waiting eagerly for your newsletter! I a, sure it will be anything but boring! Happy bloggerversary!
