I must confess that today will be a scary day for our son.

As you read this it’s likely that my 4-year-old boy and I are waiting for our place in surgery.

Nil by mouth isn’t fun for anyone, especially a boy who likes to graze ALL DAY LONG.

However, I’m sure he and I will tough it out.

I’ll look in to his big blue eyes and offer him the reassurance he needs.

But I must confess, I’m a wee bit scared of the unknown right now :(.

Our gorgeous boy just one week ago - not knowing what was ahead of him!

Our gorgeous boy just one week ago – not knowing what was ahead of him!

The Husband and I made the decision NOT to tell him or siblings about his two-hour kidney surgery and the subsequent four-day hospital stay he’ll have to endure, until the day before he was to have it.

We didn’t make this decision lightly. We asked, we researched, and we looked in our hearts.

What we realised is that there would be no benefit for him if he knew what horrific pain was ahead of him.

Why make a child suffer unnecessarily?

A thoughtful moment

So if you have any spare karma, angels floating around, or whatever, please send them our son’s way for a complication-free operation.

We’ll see you on the flip side.

Oh and one more thing – I want to say that I’m so GRATEFUL that our boy is so healthy, I know there are many gorgeous children out there doing it way worse.

So to those parents, grandparents and siblings going through much worse, you have a part of my heart right now.

Em xx

  4. Our boy had to have a bi-lateral PUJ repair – in real-speak that means he had to have the tube connecting his kidneys to his bladder reconstructed – on both sides, so I know mama, I know.

The fear (paralytic if you think about it too much), the agonising empathy for what your flesh and blood is about to experience and the doubt. That little seed that even although the best surgeon in the world is in charge of your boy, that nagging little what if? still raises it’s head, no matter how many times you beat it down.

I get it. And he will be fine. He is in the right place and in the safest hands. You can do no more and you have a whole ‘tribe’ there with you in spirit.

    Kia Kaha Mama Bear.

    (((hugs)))
